A Little Preparation. A Lot of Adventure.

Travel is one of life’s great experiences—but it’s rarely completely predictable. Flights change. Weather happens. A road closes. A wonderful little café appears where nobody expected one.

Over the years, we’ve learned that some preparation goes a long way, but so does flexibility. Here are a few thoughts to help you arrive ready to enjoy the journey.

Pack Light. Really.

There’s an old travel adage: Lay out all the clothes and all the money you think you’ll need. Take half the clothes and twice the money.

We’re not sure you need to take that literally—but the clothes part is pretty darn good advice.

You’ll be responsible for managing your own luggage at various points during the journey, and hauling a giant suitcase across a hotel lobby—or discovering there’s no elevator—isn’t anybody’s idea of a memorable travel experience.

Choose comfortable, versatile clothing that can be layered and worn more than once. Comfortable shoes are essential. Leave a little room in your suitcase, too. You never know what might follow you home.

Expect the Unexpected

We plan our journeys carefully. But we deliberately do not plan every minute of every day.

A great itinerary provides structure without becoming a straitjacket.

Sometimes an unexpected opportunity presents itself. Sometimes a local recommendation is too good to ignore. Sometimes everyone is having such a wonderful time that rushing off simply because the itinerary says 2:15 would be ridiculous.

And sometimes weather, transportation, local conditions, or circumstances beyond anyone’s control require us to change course.

Bring your curiosity—and a little flexibility. Some of the best travel experiences are the ones nobody could have scheduled.

Travel Insurance—Please Consider It Seriously

Time Travel Selective Tours does not sell or provide travel insurance, and choosing a policy is each traveler’s responsibility. However, we strongly recommend that you investigate comprehensive travel insurance appropriate for your individual circumstances.

A significant journey can represent a significant financial investment. Unexpected illness or injury, family emergencies, flight disruptions, lost or delayed luggage, and other unforeseen events can happen before or during a trip.

Policies and coverage vary considerably, particularly regarding trip cancellation, trip interruption, emergency medical care, medical evacuation, pre-existing medical conditions, and the timing of when coverage must be purchased.

We encourage you to shop carefully, compare policies, understand what is—and is not—covered, and purchase the coverage that is right for you. Don’t wait until the last minute to investigate it; some protections may depend upon purchasing insurance within a specified period after your initial trip payment.

Know Before You Go

Each Time Travel Selective journey is different. Before departure, we’ll provide tour-specific information covering things such as expected weather, suggested clothing, luggage considerations, transportation, currency, electrical adapters, physical activity, and other details relevant to that destination.

International travelers are responsible for having a valid passport and any visas, entry authorizations, vaccinations, or other documentation required for the countries visited. Requirements can change, so we’ll point you toward appropriate official resources when possible, but ultimately each traveler is responsible for meeting applicable entry requirements.

Comfortable Doesn’t Always Mean Effortless

We thoughtfully curate our tours with comfort and quality in mind, but travel itself sometimes requires a bit of effort.

Historic cities have cobblestones. Charming old buildings may have stairs. Coaches can’t always park at the front door. Airports involve walking. Ancient ruins weren’t designed with elevators. And sometimes the spectacular view is spectacular precisely because it takes a little effort to reach it.

Each tour will identify its expected activity level so you can decide whether the journey is a comfortable match for you.

If you have mobility concerns or other needs that could affect your participation, please talk with us before booking. We’d much rather have that conversation beforehand than discover during the journey that an itinerary isn’t right for you.
